What is UMAMY

Umamy Design group was founded in 1999 in Tel Aviv. The group’s design philosophy – posing probing existential questions to help define an object’s usefulness and integration into a user’s life, steers its aesthetic and governs the creative decisions behind new designs. The leading concept for this year’s collection was “Form and Formation” and it is inseparably interwoven in the works.
A missing chandelier, a cut off chair stimulates us to doubt our obvious and sometimes mistaken perception of reality.

Umamy’s 2002 chair, dubbed “till we meet again", asks consumers whether the general assumption that seat and back be firmly attached is valid. Although physically comfortable, this chair plays havoc with our expectations and sense of security.
